Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could help the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.
Viewers can anticipate finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
